About

Hi, I'm Roberto. I'm an engineer working on catastrophe risk, and I live in London.

During my PhD at the Polytechnic University of Bari (Italy) I started coding, and realised I love solving engineering problems with it.

Soon I wanted to share those algorithms, especially with non-coders, so I started writing small apps. Today I'm an Associate Professor of Catastrophe Risk Modelling at University College London, where I co-direct the DE|RISC Lab, and the founder of OpenVulnerability. I also consult on risk modelling, especially fragility and vulnerability.

Dr Roberto GentileAssociate ProfessorCatastrophe Risk Modelling · UCL

I provide tools that allow engineers to use quantified risk as a metric for design, and risk modellers to improve their estimates using advanced engineering methods.

I co-direct the DE|RISC Lab at UCL.

I am the founder of OpenVulnerability.

I'm available for consultancy in risk modelling, especially for seismic and flood fragility and vulnerability models, damage and loss estimates for buildings and infrastructure. I also advise on the seismic assessment and retrofit of reinforced-concrete structures.
